As some of you know, the whirlpools and fitness area in the Cummer Community Centre have not been operating properly for too long and have required many repairs to the point they were shut down. City Park staff proposed renovations which would unfortunately have substantially decreased the number of showers and lockers in the change rooms and when I met with community members and users of the facility they clearly expressed the same view. I reviewed a number of alternate proposals with City staff, none of which responded to the requests of the facility users. I was pleased however to bring forward a proposal at a community consultation meeting I held on June 22nd that users of the facilities overwhelmingly endorsed.
The latest proposal will refurbish both the male and female change rooms in the fitness centre with new hot tubs/whirlpools and maintain the existing spaces with new tiles, lockers, showers, and toilets. With support from the community at the recent meeting, City staff are now finalizing the designs. Click here for information on the project from the City of Toronto website.
