I'm very glad to see that the Bayview Resurfacing project from Truman Road (south of the 401) to Steeles Ave is essentially complete, with only minor signalling work remaining at Finch Ave. I want to thank residents for your patience during this important and long-awaited capital project.
Though it started later than I would have liked (August 29th), I'm glad our staff and contractors were able to complete the repaving well before winter set in. This required some extended hours and lane closures, as the complex project covered four major intersections (Hwy 401, Sheppard, Finch, and Steeles). While it may have seemed like a long time, we can now enjoy a smoother ride home and to expect Bayview Ave to finally be off CAA's list of Toronto's Worst Roads!
You may also notice that, in addition to repaving and repainting, the curbs were repaired and the Bayview-Finch intersection was redesigned. New right turn lanes were added to facilitate better traffic flow so that curbside traffic can pass through without needless delay.
Staff agreed with my recommendation on your behalf to make improvements on the city boulevard—East side of Bayview—with new sodding from Foxwarren to Citation, and new concrete from Citation to Finch. As per my advice, this beautification was done as part of the current project rather than later next spring to avoid even more lane closures.
I have included a photo to compare the old unsightly asphalt with the brand new sodding for your interest. As always, please be alert and drive safely on the road.
