Public invited to provide input on the licensing of rental apartment buildings

Municipal Licensing and Standards is consulting with the public on a framework for licensing rental apartment buildings.

As part of the consultation, tenants, property owners and managers and the general public are invited to take a survey and have their say on a potential license for rental apartment buildings, with the goal of improving living conditions in these buildings.

The survey focuses on the intended goals of the proposed licence, which is to build on the current Multi-Residential Apartment Building Audit Program by:

- promoting best practices in building maintenance

- strengthening enforcement of property standards violations

- improving tenant engagement and access to information

The license would affect rental buildings that have three or more storeys and ten or more units, including Toronto Community Housing properties.

The results of this survey will be summarized and considered as part of the City's report to the Licensing and Standards Committee in the fall.
