Over the years, several improvements have been made to this facility, which originally consisted of the arena, a small fitness area and pool. Work has been done to upgrade the site inside and out, including a recent retrofit of the air handling unit.
The whirlpools in the aquatics area have aged and are now in need of an upgrade. In order to achieve current standards under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), a straight replacement will not suffice. Therefore, City staff have been working on a new design including whirlpool, sauna and changing areas that will meet the requirements and enhance the spaces. Several Options are being considered.
I have asked the staff to present design options for renewed whirlpool and sauna features at a meeting with users in the community. We are looking to set this up with City staff in September and will keep you posted on the details as they come.
