As of June 1, 2015, the City of Toronto Blue Bin recycling program accepts soft plastic films including a variety of packaging materials such as:
milk bags and outer bags
non-foil bread bags
sandwich bags (e.g. re-sealable types)
bulk bags (used for fruit, vegetables, nuts)
dry cleaning bags
newspaper/flyer bags
fresh or frozen produce bags
over-wrap from toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, hygiene products, water/soft drink packaging, etc.
The City asks that you please empty and rinse any items that may contain residue before placing them in the bin.
A few remaining soft plastic materials still cannot be recycled. They are:
all biodegradable plastic films
black plastic films
laminated plastic films (e.g. stand-up re-sealable pouch bags
