New items accepted for Blue Bin Recycling

As of June 1, 2015, the City of Toronto Blue Bin recycling program accepts soft plastic films including a variety of packaging materials such as:

  • milk bags and outer bags

  • non-foil bread bags

  • sandwich bags (e.g. re-sealable types)

  • bulk bags (used for fruit, vegetables, nuts)

  • dry cleaning bags

  • newspaper/flyer bags

  • fresh or frozen produce bags

  • over-wrap from toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, hygiene products, water/soft drink packaging, etc.

The City asks that you please empty and rinse any items that may contain residue before placing them in the bin.

A few remaining soft plastic materials still cannot be recycled. They are:

  • all biodegradable plastic films

  • black plastic films

  • laminated plastic films (e.g. stand-up re-sealable pouch bags
